Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client  (Windows)

VPN allows a secure method to authenticate your computer and access restricted NDUS or UND resources.The Cisco AnyConnect VPN client is a web-based client that does not require user configuration.  You will need your NDUSDOM active directory username and password. If you do not have a username and password, the request form "NDUS-CNS-004 Request for VPN" is available online.

Installing the AnyConnect VPN Client

1.    Point your browser to https://asavpn1.und.edu.

2.    Choose the appropriate VPN Group if needed. Enter your username and password.

3. Connecting with AnyConnect   

If you are prompted to install the add-on: “AnyConnect VPN Client”, click the information bar then choose “Install This Add-on for All Users on This Computer.” If you are using Internet Explorer 8 with Protected Mode On, please see the instructions at the end of this document before proceeding.


Click “Install ActiveX Control”

The client will be automatically configured.

Once the installation is complete, the “Connection Established” screen will display and you are connected to the VPN. The AnyConnect icon   should be located within the system tray.  You may now access the restricted resources.

4.    Disconnecting from AnyConnect VPN client

Right-click the AnyConnect VPN client icon in the system tray and choose “Disconnect” from the pop-up choices.

5.    Reconnecting the AnyConnect VPN Client

To reconnect either

a. Repeat the installation steps above, you will be prompted to login.

You will see a message that the “VPN client is already installed and connected,” click OK.

OR

b. Start the client from the Start Menu.

Click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Cisco”, “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client,” and “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client.”

Choose the appropriate Group, enter your username and password and click Connect.

If you wish to create a desktop shortcut for the AnyConnect client, go through the steps above as though to start the client from the Start menu. Right-click on the “Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client” option, choose “Send to” then “Desktop (create shortcut).”

You can then click the Cisco AnyConnect shortcut icon on your desktop to start the program. Once connected, the dialog box will close.

To disconnect, use the icon located within the system tray.


Internet Explorer 8 – Protected Mode On

If protected mode is “on,” you will need to add the VPN download server to your trusted sites.

To do so, either choose Internet Options  from the Tools menu, then click the Security tab; or double-click  “Protected Mode: On” within the task bar at the bottom of the browser window.

Click “Trusted sites,” then the Sites button. Enter the server information (https://asavpn1.und.edu) and click Add. Then close.

We recommend that you close your browser and restart the process.
